Miami Marlins’ Outfielder Giancarlo Stanton hit his 3rd longest homer of the season against the Chicago Cubs with a 2-0 win at Marlins Park.
Stanton’s 458 ft. single home run went on a velocity of 112.4, which earned him another record-breaking homerun this season.
Before adding another homer to the record books, both teams were scoreless going into the 3rd. There were no players on any bases when the Marlins slated Stanton as their batter. The Cubs’ pitcher John Lackey threw a curveball going 83.4 mph, but Stanton sent it flying for a homerun to give his side the first point of the game. The Marlins scored another with Christian Yelich’s sacrifice fly to Cubs’ center fielder Albert Almora, resulting to a Dee Gordon run in the 6th. The Cubs were unable to respond for the rest of the game.
The Marlins are set to face the Cubs again on Saturday, 4:10 P.M, at Marlins Park. Marlins’ Justin Nicolino (0-1, 5.06 ERA) will be going against Cubs’ Jon Lester (4-4, 3.83 ERA). Whichever team wins the next game will break their tie in the series.
