The Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Cubs are set to have a match at Guaranteed Rate Field. Can the White Sox triumph over the Cubs at home?
Could the White Sox end this series with a win? Or will the Cubs show them why they’re Chicago’s defending champions?
The White Sox slated Mike Pelfrey (4.46 ERA, 1.45 WHIP) on the mound to start against Cubs’ Jon Lester (3.95 ERA, 1.24 WHIP).

Lester is currently on a two-game winning streak; he holds a 7-6 win-loss record. The southpaw allowed two runs and two homers while striking out 10 batters in eight innings against the St. Louis Cardinals in his last game. He’s been performing better after his devastating loss against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

On the other hand, Pelfrey hasn’t been performing well; he’s currently on a two-game losing streak. The righty conceded two hits, a run and six walks against the Kansas City Royals in his last match. He currently has a 3-7 record but he performs better with a 4.03 ERA in his home games.

The Cubs’ offense is led by Kris Bryant who currently has the highest batting average (.276 AVG) and OBP (.398 OBP) in his team. Another outstanding Cubs’ batter is Anthony Rizzo who contributed the most RBI and dingers for his team. The Cubs’ entire lineup currently has 455 runs so far.

Among the White Sox batters, Jose Abreu has had the most success against Lester. He has a total of four hits and 2 RBI in nine at-bats against the southpaw in his career; he also has a very impressive line of .444/.500/.556 and a 1.056 OPS against the Cubs’ starting pitcher. Plus, El Canon contributed the most RBI for his team this season.
The Cubs slated one of their best pitchers against a pitcher who’s currently on a losing streak. If Lester can perform as good as his last game then the Cubs could win this one. However, batters like Abreu could pose a threat against the Cubs’ southpaw. So, if other White Sox batters could hit a homer like Matt Davidson did in their opening match then the White Sox can secure a victory against Chicago’s defending champions. But if there was one thing that the Cubs have experience on, it’s how to make a comeback.
Projected Winner: The Cubs
