Cincinnati Reds’ rookie Sal Romano (2-2, 5.50 ERA) recently got the second win of his career at the expense of the Miami Marlins and their starting pitcher, Tom Koehler, last July 23. The two starters were supposed to have a rematch but the Marlins chose to extend Koehler’s stay at Triple A New Orleans. So, Vance Worley (0-2, 6.37 ERA) will now be pitching in his place to host the visiting Reds at Marlins Park.

Romano had the best performance of his career in his last start at home versus the Marlins; he only gave up one run on three hits including a homer while he struck out seven batters in six innings. It was a surprising win for him since he hasn’t performed well at the Great American Ball Park with a 6.23 ERA compared to his solid 3.60 ERA on road games.

While Worley is returning to the Marlins after his time at Triple A New Orleans. In his 12 games with the Marlins this year, he only started four games; he allowed 21 runs on 40 hits including two homeruns in 29.2 innings. However, he hasn’t performed well in eight games including two starts at home with a 6.75 ERA.

Marlins’ J.T. Realmuto could be a problem for Cincinnati since he got two runs on three hits including two homers in his last game against the Reds last July 22. Plus, he’s having the best season of his career so far with a .303/.365/.471 stat line and a .836 OPS with 10 homers so far, one dinger shy of his career-high.

For the Reds, Scooter Gennett has bested Worley throughout his career; he’s gotten one run on four hits in nine at bats versus the Marlins’ starting pitcher. He’s currently posting a .444/.545/.444 line and a .990 OPS against Worley but the last time he faced the righty was back in 2015.
The Marlins won two out of three games in their last match up against the Reds but fans would be hard-pressed to see another win from Miami since Worley hasn’t even won a single game this season. Plus, Worley has been worse at home while Romano is clearly better in road games.
