The New York Yankees will host the last match in their four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Yankee Stadium. Yankees’ Jordan Montgomery (3.92 ERA, 1.22 WHIP) has been chosen to close their series against Rays’ Jacob Faria (2.67 ERA, 1.10 WHIP). Which team will get the final win?

Montgomery has been performing in a consistent pace with a 7-5 win-loss record. He only allowed one run and a walk while striking out six batters in six innings against the Cincinnati Reds in his last game. Plus, the southpaw plays better at home (3.46 ERA) than away (4.34 ERA).

While Faria has been performing well with a 5-1 record after being recalled from Triple-A Durham last June 7. He conceded three runs, a homer and two walks while striking out five batters in seven innings against the Baltimore Orioles in his last match. The righty plays better on the road (2.56 ERA) than at home (2.81 ERA).

The Yankees’ offensive lineup is led by Aaron Judge with an outstanding .308/.430/.644 line and a 1.074 OPS. Despite having the highest stats among the Yankees’ batters, Judge hasn’t been hitting a lot of runs lately but he’s been receiving a large number of walks. Another potential threat to the Rays’ defense is Didi Gregorius. He’s been contributing a lot of runs (8) and RBIs (9) for the Yankees recently.

While the Rays have Corey Dickerson who currently has the highest stat line (.301/.344/.529) in his team. Dickerson has been hitting (8 hits) a lot of pitches but his runs (3 runs) are nowhere close to his number of hits. Unlike Judge, Dickerson hasn’t been targeted for walks so, he has more chances of getting more dingers for the Rays.
Despite having minimal success, Montgomery has experience against the Rays’ batting lineup which gives him an advantage compared to Faria who only faced one batter in the Yankees’ offensive lineup. If Faria can somehow strike out the unfamiliar Yankees’ batters then he might be able to add another win to his record.
Projected Winner: The Yankees
