Texas Rangers’ Andrew Cashner (7-9, 3.44 ERA) had another no decision in his last game versus the Los Angeles Angels despite his poor performance. While Houston Astros’ Dallas Keuchel (11-2, 2.58 ERA) also ended up with a no decision in his last match against the Washington Nationals despite delivering a quality start. The two are set for a rematch at Tampa Bay Rays’ ballpark, Tropicana Field, while Minute Maid Park and Houston recovers from the overwhelming floodwaters wreaked by Hurricane Harvey.

Cashner gave up four runs on seven hits including one dinger while he only struck out two batters in six frames and ended up with a no decision against the Angels. He’s actually 1-1 with a 3.28 ERA this month but that single loss came from the Astros on August 13 despite his quality start because Keuchel simply performed better. Unfortunately, he’s lost all four starts against the Astros this season with a 5.09 ERA.

On the other hand, Keuchel only gave up three runs on four hits while he struck out four batters in seven innings but ended up with a no decision as well against the Nationals. He actually missed around two months because of a neck injury while his first three starts since coming back left nothing to be desired after going 0-2 with a 10.50 ERA. However, he did bounce back over his past three games with a 2-0 record and a 1.31 ERA. He bested Cashner to kick off his win streak and continue his success against the Rangers this season after winning his two outings against them with a 0.71 ERA.

Astros’ Jose Altuve has been exceptional against Cashner in his career so far; he’s gotten five runs on eight hits including one dinger with a .533/.529/.867 stat line and a 1.396 OPS in 15 at bats versus the Rangers starter. He’s also continuing to put up MVP numbers with a .355/.414/.563 triple slash line and a .977 OPS.

While Adrian Beltre is one of the Rangers’ most experienced hitters when it comes to facing Keuchel; he’s gotten six runs on 17 hits including two homers with a .298/.355/.509 stat line and a .864 OPS in 57 at bats versus the Astros starter. He’s also the Rangers’ best batter this season with a .316/.387/.557 triple slash line and a .944 OPS even if he’s already 38 years old.
Cashner is certainly capable of holding his own against American League’s best but the Astros have enough firepower to put down the Rangers starter. While Keuchel has certainly enjoyed a lot of success versus the Rangers while Cashner’s four-game losing streak against the best batting team in the MLB spells trouble for the Lone Stars.
Projected Winner: Houston Astros
