The Cleveland Indians are fresh off their 15th straight win after they lit up the Chicago White Sox with five home runs and ended up with an 11-2 victory. The Tribe will rely on Mike Clevinger (8-5, 3.50 ERA) as they look to continue their win streak when they face the Baltimore Orioles and their starter Wade Miley (8-11, 4.91 ERA) in a three game home stand at Progressive Field.

Clevinger only gave up three hits without any runs while he struck out six batters in six innings as he won his latest start against the Detroit Tigers; it was his second straight game without giving up any runs. He’s also been incredible lately after going 3-1 with a 2.08 ERA in his last five games. On the other hand, he’s been successful against his upcoming opponents as well after he only gave up two runs on six hits including one homer while he struck out four batters in five innings when he last faced the Orioles on June 22.

Whereas, Miley lost his last start versus the Toronto Blue Jays despite delivering a quality start; he only gave up two runs on four hits including one dinger while he struck out six batters in six innings. He’s also been solid so far after going 3-2 with a 2.51 ERA in his last five matches. However, he didn’t have the same success in his last showdown against the Indians and Clevinger; he gave up four runs on eight hits while he only struck out three batters in five frames as he ended the game with a loss.

Baltimore’s batters haven’t had more than five at bats versus Clevinger so far but Seth Smith was the only one who got a hit and a run in their last game against Cleveland’s starter. He’s also posting a decent .269/.351/.456 stat line and a .808 OPS this year but he’s only gotten one run on four hits including one homer in his last five games.

While Indians’ Edwin Encarnacion is one of the most successful batters against Miley out of their lineup; he’s gotten six runs on six hits including two dingers with a .462/.650/1.077 triple slash line and a 1.727 OPS in 13 at bats versus the Orioles starter. He’s also gotten four runs on eight hits including one homer in his past five matches while he’s got a .256/.381/.501 stat line and a .882 OPS this year.
Even if Indians’ Jose Ramirez doesn’t play in this game due to a balky right wrist, the Indians have multiple batters who could pick up the slack against Miley. While most of Baltimore’s key players like Jonathan Schoop, Welington Castillo, and Trey Mancini have gotten hits versus Clevinger but no one among those batters even got a single run. So, Clevinger could help the Indians get the win to extend their streak if he continues to outdo Miley.
